I wrote a book! Will you carry it?
Guidelines for Local and Self-Published Authors
Congratulations on completing your book! Writing and publishing a book is a major undertaking, and we applaud your effort! K’s Beach Reads supports Tennessee and North Carolina writers by stocking your books in our store and hosting events at which Tennessee and North Carolina authors are featured.
If you are interested in stocking your book at K’s Beach Reads:
We are pleased to have the opportunity to sell your work in our store.
If your book is traditionally published and available through Ingram at a standard discount, with returnable terms, you can email us at klr@ksbeachreads.com. Let us know of your connection to Tennessee or North Carolina and why your book is a good fit for our store, and we will consider ordering it.
We typically take self-published books on consignment at the industry standard terms:
60% of the retail price to the author/40% to the store.
K’s Beach Reads will place your books for sale on a consignment basis, and we will keep your book(s) in stock for at least 6 months. If your book(s) has not sold in 6 months, we will ask you to come pick them up (if you need your book(s) mailed, a pre-paid mailer must be provided, as we will not pay shipping costs). Books that have not been picked up within two months after you have been notified that they have been removed from the shelf will no longer be our responsibility and may be donated to a charitable organization of our choice.
K’s Beach Reads will pay you for books sold on a quarterly basis; payment will be mailed to the address you provided on your consignment form, so please make sure to keep your address and contact information updated.
If you want us to carry your book, please be sure it
Has an ISBN and bar code
Has the title on the spine
Is priced competitively with similar titles and similarly formatted books
Is of a genre we carry and will be of interest to our customers
Looks professional (consider hiring a professional editor, illustrator, and graphic designer)
Does not promote Amazon or encourage potential buyers to find or review it on Amazon

How much do I get paid when my books sell at K’s Beach Reads?
K’s Beach Reads will pay you 60% of the retail price for each book sold.
I don’t live near K’s Beach Reads. Can I mail books to you?
Yes! Though please note that K’s Beach Reads will not pay for shipping (either to or from K’s Beach Reads), but you’re welcome to mail books to us if you don’t live close to the store.
How many copies of my book should I bring?
We will take 2-5 copies of each title you want to consign.
Will I get paid for every book I leave at K’s Beach Reads?
You will get paid for every book rung through the register. (All sales, no matter the channel, are rung through the register.) We will return unsold books to you. We do not pay for stolen books; the risk of theft is borne by the consignor.
When will I get paid for my books?
We process payments quarterly for consignment books that are sold. Payments are made in April, July, October, and January for all sales in the previous quarter. If we do not reach out about payment, that means none of your books sold during that quarter.
How will you pay me for my books?
We will send a bill-pay check via our bank to the address you provide on the consignment form. If there are problems processing your payment, we will contact you at the email/phone number provided on that same form. (Please keep this information updated to prevent payment delays!)
How long will you keep my books in stock?
We will stock consignment books for at least 6 months. After that, it depends on sales. If your book continues to sell, we’re happy to keep it on the shelf. If your book does not sell for 6 months, we will ask you to come pick up your remaining books, send us a pre-paid mailer to return them, or allow us to donate them.
What happens if you sell out of my book?
If we sell out of your book, we will reach out to you for more copies. Please keep your contact information up to date!
What will you do with my books if they don’t sell?
If your books don’t sell within a 6 month period, we will contact you and ask you to come pick up your remaining books. (If you don’t live near K’s Beach Reads, we’re happy to ship them to you, but K’s Beach Reads will not pay shipping costs; you will either need to send us a pre-paid mailer or pay us a shipping fee.)
How long do I have to pick up my books?
If your books have not been picked up within two months of us notifying you, they will be donated to a local charity or added to our customer giveaway tub.
How will you contact me about payment or picking up unsold books?
Our preferred method of communication is email. We ask for your email and phone number on the consignment form. Please keep your contact information updated to make sure you receive our communications.
